Let's go to the beach each
I've been in Puerto Viejo for almost a week now and this is such a cool place to be! It is on the Caribbean side of Costa Rice and very far south. Like I said in my last post, I am right on the ocean. I have definitely been taking advantage of that. I have gone in the ocean every day for the past 5 day. It is so easy because it is a 2-minute walk and then there are outdoor showers and places to rinse off at my Airbnb. The Wi-Fi also has been working really well, and I have not had any problems with any of my classes (knock on wood). This past weekend I went to a town called Cahuita with my German friend and we walked around the national park there. It was so beautiful because the trail went along the coast out to Cahuita Point. There were some parts where you had to walk through the water which was so fun. I also went to a farmers market this past weekend and explored the town.
This week I will work all week and continue to go in the ocean. Today, I had my first Costa Rican Caribbean food, and it was so good! They have a signature dish called "Rice and Beans" (that's not even translated, they literally call it Rice and Beans) and it is similar to gallo pinto, but they add a coconut flavor to the dish, and it is so good. It tastes very Caribbean because coconut is a Caribbean flavor to me. The restaurant was able to make it vegetarian, so they cooked up a mixture of vegetables like cauliflower, mushrooms, peppers, and onions. There was also a salad. As you can tell in the photo, it was a full massive plate. I also got a mango smoothie which was so good. This definitely was a dish unique to this region and I am so glad that I tried it because it was delicious! I think I will try another Caribbean restaurant before I leave. Also, the view of the ocean in the background was so incredible.
My German friend leaves tomorrow to go to her next place, which actually happens to be the next place that I am going but I will not go for another week. We are hoping to meet up again in December as neither of us have a plan of where we are going to be. It has been fun exploring with her and I am so glad that we connected. At least I have another friend to keep me company!
