Day 1 in La Fortuna

Today was our first full day in La Fortuna and it was a great one! I had to work throughout the day, so I did my first class and then we got in the car and drove to La Fortuna Waterfall. We hiked down a bunch of stairs and got to an incredible waterfall and we got to swim all around. Then we hiked back up and ended up seeing a toucan and a sloth! It was so beautiful and definitely worth the visit. 


Then I had to work for a while, so I did that, and my parents walked around the town to explore a bit. Once I finished, we went to some hot springs. The hot springs here are heated by the Arenal Volcano so that was new for us! We went to a hot springs recommended by a server at a restaurant that we visited last night. We decided to do this one because it also had a dinner option, and we were interested to see what that was like. I am not even kidding when I say that there was no one there. There were 5 large pools, and we were the only people there. Of course, there were people working but we were the only ones in the water. It was so crazy! This apparently is the slowest time of year here, so the town is fairly empty which has been fun for us. We went around to all the different pools and then had dinner prepared for us. After dinner we went back in the water and the chef delivered our dessert to us and we got to eat it on the side of the pool. I cannot believe how lucky we were to get that experience.

Hello everyone (everyone might just be my mom and dad)! I decided that I wanted to start blogging because I am starting a really big solo adventure and I want to document what is happening. Currently I am sitting in the Dallas Fort Worth airport and I’m in a “luxury lounge”. I got a travel credit card and one of the perks is that I get access to lounges in a bunch of different airports. It seems really cool to me because I get free food and a place to relax. It’s pretty busy but no one is talking to me so that’s nice.  I was dropped off at the Grand Junction airport this morning at 4am to start this journey. I am going to make it to San Jose, Costa Rica this evening around 6pm. I can’t stop getting overwhelmed by waves of sadness and fear. It’s getting better as the day goes on but I keep thinking about the rest of my day and getting to where I need to be as well as what the next couple of months could look like for me. Election thoughts and mold

I am so saddened by the results of the United States presidential election. Donald Trump was elected as president and will be the president for the next four years. This is actually terrifying news to me because so many of his statements and actions have been at the detriment of people like me. I think I went into this election with a bit too much confidence. So much of the media that I consume is from like-minded people. So many TikToks that I see and Instagram posts that I like, are in support of my values. I don't watch the news (and I don't want to watch the news) and I don't pursue media that doesn't align with my values. That being said, I try to remain open minded and hear everyone out, but I don't want to get offended and riled up just by scrolling through my phone. I went into this election with the idea that Kamala was going to win. To me it was so clear. She isn't a felon, racist, predator, an old white man, or just an overall horrible human being. I ...

Dunkin'

I have been really enjoying Valdivia! Shout out to the blog post that I read that recommended Valdivia. I think Valdivia is not super popular for tourists outside of Chile but there are lots of Chilean tourists here right now. It is still summer break so there are lots of families and couples traveling and hanging out here. Last week I worked all week and some of the students were challenging. I also went to a coworking space during the week because the Wi-Fi at my Airbnb is not the best. And then on Friday it was Valentine's Day! My motivation all week was to make it to Friday and then I could go to Dunkin' Donuts. I woke up and jumped out of bed. I went to Dunkin' and got an iced vanilla latte and two heart shaped donuts. I went to a nearby park to read and enjoy my treats. While I was in the park a man walked up to me. I had seen him on the corner selling flowers for Valentine's Day.
